Arrancar la vida

Dear all,

I have this sentence:

It seems to be a figurative expression, meaning to get some life/ways of life (I don't really know) from the stones.

My try is: ...the ones who need to crack life from stones", after reading this post: arrancar una sonrisa

Any help? Does it make any sense?

Thank you!

    Another idea:
We are left with the difficult part, plucking life out of stones every day.
    Or more dramatically
We are left with the difficult part, wrenching life out of stones every day.

In this case I prefer Lunangelmar option, as I'm looking for something that implies "extraer".

We are left with the difficult part, extracting life from stones every day.
