Hello everyone,

Is this commonly used nowadays as "to get hungry"?
It is taken from the Bible:
そして40日間、昼も夜も断食した後、空腹を覚えられた。

    It includes the polite expression, 尊敬語, in Japanese.

    In the plain form, it would be written as:
    そして40日間、昼も夜も断食した後、空腹を覚えた (he felt hungry)

    覚える
    in this context is "feel" or "recognize," not "remember."

    Besides, the subject of this sentence is, of course, Jesus.
    Therefore, the writer had to choose the polite version of 覚えた, which was 覚えられた, in order to express their respect for him.

    The alternative expressions would be:
    そして40日間、昼も夜も断食した後、空腹を自覚された。(<---自覚した。)
    そして40日間、昼も夜も断食した後、空腹を感じられた。(<---感じた。)
    そして40日間、昼も夜も断食した後、空腹をお感じになった。(<---感じた。)
