Hi everyone,

how is one supposed to figure out the readings of those ? Context alone can hardly narrow down the choice to 1.

    Hello Kaito,

The most frequent readings of the two kanjis are onore and nanji. It is unfortunate that you chose not to provide context but I shan't change my judgement unless different readings are suggested in the context either by furigana or okurigana.

Context is not necessary because it's more of a general question, whether theres a way to figure out the reading other than by experience.
Can you formulate some rough guidelines in which kind of context which reading is used ?

Anyhow the sentence that made me remember to ask about those 2 was:
    天光満つる所我はあり、黄泉の門開く所汝あり

己 is sure to be read onore except in 己惚れ (unubore). If there are very few exceptions, the author may wish to provide furigana to avoid misunderstanding.

汝 is again almost always nanji. It can be also read ware, unu or imashi but furigana or okurigana should assert them lest the "default" reading should take precedence.
