Hi. I previously thought the bold part is the same as というのか until I have been told it is a causal version of というのですか today. So is there any difference between というのか and というのですか?

Thank you.

Hi, it is just a difference of degree of politeness. "というのか" or "というの" sounds casual, like a conversation between close people, and ”というのですか" should be used when you speak to your boss or people you don't know well.

Thank you. I see. So how would you translate というのか/というのですか into English? Like “Are you saying... ?”?
