Yo, friends. I was reading Vagabond and I am sure Gion Toji is a disciple of Yoshiyoka Seijuto, but I don't understand why he did not say:
"京八流 吉岡田清十郎直弟子 祇園藤次!"
When he uses 吉岡田清十郎直弟子, I can't help thinking Seijuro is the direct disciple...
Could you explain?

    The が in old Japanese is the の in modern Japanese, meaning possession.
    Similar examples are 我が子, 我が家, etc.
